Piorrea (Periodontosis): Causes and Remedies

What is pyorrhea?

Known in common parlance as pyorrhea, periodontitis is a serious infection that damages the soft tissues (gums) and jawbone. It is a disease of the gum, of the tissue that surrounds the tooth.

I sintomi della parodontite

If you have healthy gums, you will notice the classic pink color and you will see them adhering well to your teeth. The symptoms of periodontitis, on the other hand, are:

  • Swollen gums
  • Red or purplish gums
  • Bleeding gums
  • Gums that recede from the teeth (making them appear longer than normal)
  • Empty spaces between gums and teeth
  • Halitosis
  • Loose teeth
  • Pain when chewing

The first stage is an infection that causes red gums and subsequent bleeding, especially when they are brushed.

This first stage is called gingivitis which, if left untreated, results in periodontitis. Periodontitis is a buildup of bacterial plaque on the teeth and also below the gum line. If the plaque is not removed, it will harden to form a layer of tartar, which irritates, deteriorates and destroys the gum tissue.

Bacteria, in fact, produce acids, enzymes and toxins that erode and decompose the supporting structures of the teeth (gums and alveolar bone).

The conclusion of this phase is the detachment of the gums from the teeth, the consequent formation of pockets in which the bacteria will nest, aggravating the infection and accelerating the loosening of the teeth.

The solution for the final stage of pyorrhea

Loosening of the teeth inevitably leads to their detachment from the gums and, ultimately, to their falling out. The loss of teeth involves considerable problems, not only aesthetic, but above all health:

  • Difficulty eating (due to inability to chew)
  • Bone resorption (causing changes in the face)
  • Problems with speaking (absence of teeth affects speech)

When you get to the last stage of pyorrhea, there is only one solution to restore your teeth and go back to living as before: implantology, the insertion of dental implants and fixed prostheses.

IT IS NOT AN ALL ON 4 PROSTHESIS

WHY ARE 8 IMPLANTS PREFERABLE TO 4 IMPLANTS?

Perfect Aesthetics – No Fake Gingiva

All on 8 fixed dental prostheses, unlike the All on four, guarantee perfect aesthetics because they do not have false gums.

 Maximum stability

The correct balance of the chewing load is guaranteed by the 8 cemented implants for each arch. The All on four instead provides only 4 screwed on the front of the mouth, to the detriment of chewing due to the failure to respect the normal balances of the chewing load.

  No maintenance costs

To ensure proper hygiene, all you need is a brush, toothpaste and dental floss. On the contrary, the All on 4 prosthesis has high maintenance costs since it requires 3 periodic checks per year by the specialist to remove it due to the infiltration of food that is deposited there.
